When high school Spanish teacher Will Schuester Matthew Morrison becomes the director of the school's failing Glee club, New Directions, he hopes to be able to rejuvenate it.

The club competes in the choir competition circuit. It's been called "a High School Musical for adults", the series follows the club and its mixture of oddball members as they try and restore it to its former glory. It is a musical comedy in which the eager and ambitious students not only compete to win the Nationals, but also have to deal with the tough and cruel realities of their school, McKinley High. At the same time, Will is trying to rejuvenate his failing love life while preventing the school's cheer leading coach Sue Sylvester Jane Lynch from sabotaging the choir.

The relationship ends, however, as Rachel is still conflicted over her feelings for Finn and Puck has feelings for Quinn. Puck tells Quinn that he would be a good father to the baby and a good boyfriend to her, but could not be expected to remain monogamous if Quinn continued to refuse him sex.

She returns to her original plan of giving the baby to the Schuesters. After shaving his mohawk, Puck is no longer considered a credible bully, and begins dating Mercedes to boost his social status. Even though Quinn will be giving up the baby, he tells her that he wants to be there for the birth to meet their daughter.

Will Schuester. Will is married to his high school sweetheart Terri. Believing her to be pregnant, unaware that she actually experienced a hysterical pregnancy, he considers leaving the teaching field to become an accountant. He ultimately decides against it, though briefly works after hours at the school as a janitor to earn extra money.

His dedication to the glee club wavers when his choreography skills are called into question, but after starting a well-received all-male a cappella group, the Acafellas, he recommits to the club. After discovering Terri faked her pregnancy, Will ends his marriage and shares a kiss with Emma.

Sue Sylvester. She has her own spot on the local news, which she uses to editorialize on issues such as support for caning and littering. It is later revealed that Sue has an older sister who herself has Down Syndrome, showing a softer side to her normally brash character.

She later becomes reinstated after blackmailing Principal Figgins. In the season 1 finale, Sue judges in favour of New Directions, though they come third to rival clubs Vocal Adrenaline and Aural Intensity, and are disbanded for failing to place at Regionals.
